You've probably heard about WebAssembly, but there are a lot of misconceptions. It's not (just) Web. It's not (really) Assembly. And it's not a replacement for Javascript. So what is it then? WebAssembly is a continuation of the promise shown by Java and the Write Once Run Anywhere paradigm. It provides a path to using the same languages on the front-end and back-end. WebAssembly can run any architecture and is small and fast enough to be relevant for embedded and IoT devices. Its security and portability makes it a great choice for building FaaS platforms. In this talk, I'll explain what WebAssembly is, how it works and why it's going to take over the world.

About

Adrian has been involved with containers from the early days of Docker and authored the O’Reilly book “Using Docker” (https://atlas.oreilly.com/oreillymedia/using-docker). He is Chief Scientist at Container Solutions, who provide consulting and product development for microservices and containers. He is currently working on the Trow (trow.io) container registry, which is built using the Rust programming language. Recent developments in the Cloud Native space have convinced him of that Rust and Web Assembly will become important part of the Cloud Native future.
