Predicting the Future of Distributed Systems
Topics:
design patterns
leadership
psychology
software architecture
Level: General

There are significant changes happening in distributed systems. Object storage is becoming the database, tools for transactional processing and analytical processing are becoming one in the same, and there are new programming models that promise some combination of superior security, portability, management of application state, or simplification. These changes will influence how systems are operated in addition to how they are programmed. This talk will build upon my popular essay of the same title and look at how organizations can make effective decisions about the future of distributed systems through a decision-making framework popularized by Jeff Bezos based on one-way doors and two-way doors.
